LA CASA VII 16 1, 12-14

Abstract

Il contributo concerne lo studio della c.d. Casa di Umbricio Scauro II (VII 16, 12-14) di Pompei: partendo da una breve analisi del quartiere in
cui la casa è inserita e soprattutto del rapporto della stessa con la cinta muraria cittadina, si è tentata una ricostruzione delle modifi che occorse
alla domus in un lasso di tempo che va dal II sec. a.C. all’eruzione del Vesuvio nel 79 d.C. Ci si è quindi soff ermati sulla descrizione delle decorazioni
pittoriche, pavimentali e architettoniche delle diverse fasi, andando a ricostruire, nelle conclusioni, la storia sociale dei vari proprietari della
dimora dalla sua costruzione in età sannitica fi no alla sua distruzione ad opera del Vesuvio.

Th is paper concerns the study of the so called “Casa di Umbricio Scauro II” (VII, 16, 12-14) of Pompeii. After a brief analysis of the neighborhood
in which is located and especially the relationship between the house itself and the city walls, we attempted to reconstruct the changes
occurred to the domus from the II century B.C. to the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. We focused furthermore on the pictorial, fl oor and architectural
decorations of the diff erent phases. At the end We tried to reconstruct the social history of the diff erent owners of the dwelling from its
construction in the Samnite age until its destruction by Vesuvius.
