La terra sigillata dal pozzo del portico occidentale del Foro Triangolare di Pompei
Abstract
The Triangular Forum of Pompeii is one of the most iconic sites of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, both for the antiquity of its
structures and for the importance that this sacred area has always held in the socio-religious sphere of the Vesuvian city. Ever since
its discovery, this site has been a privileged area intensively investigated by excavators in the past, and in recent years – from 2016 to
2019 – new stratigraphic operations have been conducted, promoted by the University of Naples ‘Federico II’ in collaboration with
the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. These excavations have added important data both on the construction phases of the structures
within the sanctuary and on the forms of worship that were practiced there. Among the numerous archaeological findings brought
to light, we would like to present here one that, being pertinent to the filling of a well found near the western portico, has yielded a
large amount of finds, most of which are still being studied. In particular, a large number of terra sigillata vases were found, which
add a great deal of information about the ritual practices performed in the sacred area, but at the same time provide a broad overview
of the productions attested in Pompeii and their circulation within the Vesuvian context.
