Corinna e Pindaro in un aff resco della Casa del Bracciale d’Oro a Pompei

Abstract

Two unpublished marble herms from Regio I in Pompeii
Th is is one of the most interesting frescoes in the House of the Golden Bracelet, and it shows two characters separated by a young man. Th e
image, since its discovery, has been variously interpreted. In this paper I show that these two characters are the poets, Pindar and Corinna who,
as we know from the literary tradition, were also adversaries in a poetic agon.

Keywords: Corinna, Pindar, Instrumenta scriptoria, Painting, House of the Golden Bracelet
