S(VLPHVR) T(EXTATVM)? NOTA DI EPIGRAFIA, ARCHEOLOGIA E DIRITTO ROMANO A MARGINE DI UN GRUPPO DI TEGVLAE SVLPHVRIS DALLA PROVINCIA DI AGRIGENTO

Abstract

RIASSUNTO
Presento un piccolo nucleo di tegulae sulphuris che hanno lettere al di fuori del campo epigrafico. Se ne propone
un’interpretazione e una lettura del fenomeno di marchiatura di diversi lotti di zolfo, alcuni dei quali esenti
da tasse, da parte dello stesso conductor. Alcune di queste iscrizioni sono state rinvenute recentemente in un sito
produttivo in cui sono documentate tutte le fasi relative all’estrazione, alla lavorazione e al commercio dei pani di
zolfo.

ABSTRACT
The aim of this paper is to analyse 8 specimens of tegulae sulphuris with particular litters “in esergo”. Legal
and administrative interpretation seems to be possible. These tegulae come from Agrigento (where they are
made) and from Mannarazzi (Comitini, Ag), a new Officina i found, with mines, sulphur kilns and many tegulae
sulphuris fragments. Eustochius seems to be a conductor who stamps sulphur ingots with the common style7.
Few specimens, otherwise, are stamped with 4 letters (ENST) behind and beside principal lines of inscriptions.
