Abstract

The paper focuses on the clear connection between the creation of the formula and the gens Mucia, as shown by the
fresco recently found in the ‘Jurist’s Villa’. The paper also offers some insight on the political opinions of the gens Mucia,
as distant from the oligarchy of the nobilitas and inclined to a more democratic position, of which the introduction of the
new procedure could be seen as an instance.
