PROCONSOLATO E PROCONSVLARE IMPERIVM TRA I E III SECOLO D.C. UNA BREVE RICOGNIZIONE DELLE FONTI*

Valerio Marotta

Abstract

The exercise of the proconsulare imperium conferred on the princeps – unlike the proconsulare imperium extra urbem sometimes granted to the designated
to the succession or to the coregents – does not necessarily imply the contextual use, in the imperial formula, of the title of proconsul. We can therefore
conclude that Cassius Dio, while not correctly identifying the different stages of development of the Augustan regime between 27 and 19 BC, described,
however, with extreme precision the powers that made up the imperial office in the Principate and their exact nomenclatur e.
KEYWORDS. Proconsul, proconsulare imperium, tribunicia potestas, Imperial Titulature, Co-regents
