Il consolidamento della Torre del Fiscale: interventi sul complesso archeologico della torre e degli acquedotti

Abstract

The restoration work carried out on the Torre del Fiscale included several consolidation operations required by the structural
deterioration conditions, inspired by the usual principles of restoration, particularly minimization and reversibility. The tower,
currently included in the Parco dell’Appia Antica, represents a unique structure of great interest, both as a medieval artifact and
for the special conditions under which it was built, being integrated with ancient remains (ruins of abandoned buildings and
the Marcio and Claudio aqueducts at their intersection); these are structurally autonomous constructions that were, in themselves,
complex due to the overlaps that already characterized them in antiquity. The intervention on the Torre del Fiscale, completed
over a decade ago, deserves to be described to explain the restoration and consolidation operations carried out at that
time, allowing for subsequent evaluations with knowledge of the project’s intentions and implementation methods.
