Il nucleo medievale del palazzo Cesarini presso San Pietro in Vincoli: conformazione originaria e fasi costruttive successive
Abstract
The proposed contribution, extracted from a research conducted on the architectural complex of San Francesco di Paola ai
Monti, presents an interesting case study in the panorama of medieval housing in Rome. xe complex in question, in fact,
consists of several buildings built in a period of time between the 11th and 20th centuries. xe original nucleus, consisting of
Palazzo Cesarini (11th - 12th century), is located in the area of San Pietro in Vincoli in the Rione Monti, which at the time had
aristocratic residences with numerous towers, one of which was identified by research right inside the palace. The Palazzo
Cesarini subsequently changed ownership several times, in a succession on which the sources do not agree, undergoing numerous
modifications, for which the original building is currently profoundly transformed. xe historical investigation carried out has
therefore made it possible to arrive at hypotheses, quite plausible, on how the complex looked originally and during the subsequent
construction phases.
Keywords : Rome, San Francesco di Paola ai Monti, Palazzo Cesarini, medieval residences, medieval towers.
