La ricostruzione della forma. L’intervento trecentesco in S. Francesco a Monteleone di Spoleto

Stefano D'Avino

Abstract

Between 1395 and 1398, the original structure of the 13th-century Minorite church of Monteleone di Spoleto, originally with
a single nave, was profoundly transformed by creating a vault with a rounded profile about a third of its length, thus creating a
winter church in the lower area. A second nave was also created, divided from the first by a series of five arches. The essay traces
the typological evolution of the church, analyzed through the analysis of the sources, the direct reading of the monument and
an accurate campaign of instrumental investigations.

Keywords : Minorite architecture, bipartite sysstem, iemal church, endoscopy, restoration.
