Un itinerario lessicale: viator nella poesia latina da Catullo a Marziale
Abstract
The paper focuses on the presence of the word viator in Latin Poetry, starting from its first
testimonies, up to Martial, passing through Augustan poetry. The investigation aims at
following a predominantly lexical path between Late Republic and Early Imperial Age, in
order to highlight not only the cross-cutting nature of the occurrences of the word in different
literary genres, but above all the peculiar characterization and specific poetic function that
the term assumes in the authors taken into account.
Key-words: viator, Catullus, Augustan poetry, Martial.
