Abstract
The essay focuses on the role and quality of anecdotes in Malvasia’s Felsina Pittrice
and on their sources - usually oral ones. It concentrates on the comparison between
the materials gathered in the extant preparatory notes and what is actually printed in
the book, analysing the possible reasons behind Malvasia’s selection and verbal elaboration
of such materials. The collective biography of the three Carracci is used as a
case study.
