Un nouveau document et les estampilles de l’armée romaine d’Afrique
Abstract
A new roman brick stamp has been discovered. Known by an unpublished card, it has been found
in Timgad (Thamugadi), in Africa-Numidia, and must be read as follow: [LEG] III VAG for AVG.
It reminds old publications, from 1981 and 1992. But, since this time, new documents and new
interpretations arouse. So, we could add some informations to the history of some military units and
archaeological sites. With various imperial cognomina, brick stamps bring us political elements.
They are interesting both for imperial Roman Army and for Roman Africa.
Keywords: Africa, army, bricks, stamps, Numidia, tiles.
