Disiecta membra. Alcune inedite iscrizioni amerine
Abstract
Three unpublished Latin inscriptions preserved in Amelia (TR) are presented here: two are in private
dwellings (nos. 1 and 3), the third (no. 2) is reused inside the bishop’s palace. These are fragmentary
texts, but not without interest; in particular, no. 2 seems to preserve part of a decree from
the local senate concerning the engraving and public display of a provision that possibly established
honors for one of the Caesars who died prematurely. No. 3 is a funerary text for two personages
who held important public offices in Ameria, the first of a magisterial nature, the second
religious. The three new texts, which could be dated on the basis of the formulary and palaeography
between the late Republic and the beginning of the Principate, enrich an already substantial
local epigraphic patrimony, partly displayed in the Civic Archaeological Museum, partly walled
up outside buildings and churches.
