Nuova lettura di un’iscrizione della regio VIII: CIL XI 833

Adriana Tosca Esbardo

Abstract

This study proposes a reinterpretation of an inscription from regio VIII (CIL XI 833) currently
housed in the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna. The inscription, mutilated on three sides,
has been previously interpreted as an honorary inscription, slightly longer than the lines that have
survived. The new interpretation begins by identifying some omissions that have persisted in previous
editions, with particular attention to non-textual elements. Through these, it has been possible
to reconstruct the actual function of this inscription, as well as its form and dimensions. Additional
observations are also provided on the onomastics of the individual mentioned, the curator
rei publicae of Ocriculum and Blera, and the provenance of the inscription.

Keywords: curator rei publicae, Ocriculum, Blera, honorary inscription.
