Servus public(us) a Diuturna: riflessioni sull’iscrizione funeraria CIL VI 37176

Alessandra Scali

Abstract

The article focuses on the text of the funerary inscription CIL VI 37176. The epigraphic document
reports some information relating to a servant who worked in the places of the Campus
Martius connected with the cult of the goddess Juturna, about which we have limited and incomplete
information. Based on textual reflections and comparisons with other epigraphic cases, the
study proposes a new edition of the inscription. It also highlights some ways in which the complex
relationship between servants, types of work, places and divine agents is articulated: different ways
of representing oneself from time to time.

Keywords: Diuturna, Servi, Work, Divinities.
