Nuevas atestiguaciones de marcas sobre lucernas en la Tarraconense interior: sobre el fabricante C(aius) Clo(dius) Suc(essus)
Abstract
One of the most prolific manufacturers of lamps in the Roman Mediterranean was C(aius)
CLO(dius) SVC(essus) whose brand name found a remarkable dispersion in Italy and Africa,
coastal areas of southern Gaul and of the Hispanic Tarraconensis coastline. In the ongoing archaeological
excavations in the Roman city of Los Bañales de Uncastillo (Zaragoza) in the heart
of the juridical conuentus of Caesar Augusta (Zaragoza), in the inner Tarraconensis, new evidences
of his productions have been recently attested. The present work present this new material
while collecting the existing discussion on this potter and on his figlina, also assesses its possible
prosopographical connections and make a compilation of other very exclusive stamps attested
in other lamps and vases found at that Roman city, marks that strengthen the italic connections
of that site.
Keywords: Tarraconensis, Zaragoza, figlinae, lamps, Clodius Successus.
