Scarabei da abitato. Il caso dei due scarabei da Siracusa Ortigia e la fase iniziale del centro storico tra Piazza Archimede e via Maestranza
Abstract
The revival of interest in Egyptian and Egyptian scarabs is a matter of recent years, see also in this journal
the article by P.G. Guzzo (Cronache di Archeologia 41, 2022) and the work of G. Hoelbl published in the Monumenti
Antichi dei Lincei. I therefore take this opportunity to call attention to the rarer inhabited scarabs and in particular to two
specimens from Syracuse Ortygia-which have escaped the recent bibliography (from a northern block of the Athenaion)
that lend themselves to some considerations about the location of the find (not sporadic then), but from a room in
which they were found in the excavation I directed in 1978 (see, Pelagatti 1984, p. 133, fig. 24).
Keywords: Scarabs, Ortigia, archaic settlement, Aegyptiaka.
