Abstract


The Agreement between the Superintendence of Catania and University of Catania (Dipartimento
di Scienze della Formazione) allowed to start again archaeological excavation activities in the county
of Acquafredda, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The area was already investigated in the mid-
1990s by the Superintendence of Catania which discovered a complex system of quadrangular rooms dating
back between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. The restart of stratigraphic excavation, with a short and preliminary
activity conducted in 2022 and the richest one in 2023, allowed to dig a complex system of pottery
production formed by a kiln and a large rectangular room functional to the different processing phases.
