IBIZA EN LA POLÍTICA CARTAGINESA EN EL MEDITERRÁNEO OCCIDENTAL ENTRE LOS SIGLOS VII Y IV A.C.

Abstract

Analysis of the role of Ibiza in the Carthage’s Mediterranean policy until the end of the Sicilian wars of the
4th century BC, combining information from sources and historical context with archaeological data. From a
Phoenician foundation in the 7th century BC, Ibiza was placed under the hegemony of Carthage in the second
half of the 6th century BC and, from the end of the 5th century and during the 4th century BC, it became the
fundamental pillar of Carthage to maintain the Punic influence in two strategic areas such as the Balearic Islandsand the Catalan coast.

Análisis del papel de Ibiza en la política mediterránea de Cartago hasta el final de las guerras sicilianas del siglo
IV a.C., conjugando las informaciones de las fuentes y el contexto histórico con los datos arqueológicos. De fundación
fenicia en el siglo VII a.C., Ibiza se situó bajo la hegemonía de Cartago en la segunda mitad del siglo VI
a.C. y, a partir de fines del V y durante el IV a.C., se convirtió en el pilar fundamental de Cartago para mantener
la influencia púnica en dos zonas estratégicas como eran las Baleares y la costa catalana.
