Mattia Maturo

Abstract

Analysing published and unpublished data from the urban necropolises, the article offers a first contribution
regarding the presence of Levantine and western Phoenician pottery in Capua during the orientalising period.
The typological analysis identifies the presence, from the second half of the 8th century BC, of imported wares
from the Central Mediterranean and local imitations of the Levantine repertoire, which testifies to the adoption
of banquet forms pertaining to the Phoenician and western Phoenician vascular tradition.

Key words: Capua, orientalising period, Phoenician and western Phoenician pottery, tripod-bowls.
