Abstract


e evolution of studies of Near Eastern and Egyptian iconography and iconology has made it possible, based
on antiquarian sources, to distinguish the dierent cultural legacies reected in the crasmanship of the various
regions. In particular, it is possible to highlight an Achaemenid inuence and outline the historical context that
allowed the development of these productions in the palatial buildings, where crasmen from all the territories
controlled by the Great King arrived. e centres of the Levant coast were equally aected by these varied artistic
trends, spreading the high degree of renement achieved by the Persian Empire to the Near East, Egypt and the
entire Mediterranean basin.
