Abstract
Th e origin of the female head-shaped thymiateria has been usually placed in the Siculo-Punic settlements more
open to Greek infl uence. Nevertheless, some similar Eastern Greek items might situate elsewhere the creation of prototypes, maybe in the continental or asiatic Greek world.

A lungo collocata nei centri punici di Sicilia maggiormente esposti all’infl usso greco, l’origine dei cosiddetti bruciaprofumi fi ttili a testa femminile viene qui riconsiderata alla luce di alcune testimonianze extra-insulari, ipoteticamente suscettibili di indirizzare la ricerca dei prototipi verso il mondo greco continentale o asiatico.
