THEOPHORIC ANTHROPONYMS IN THE FAYUM SOCIETY OF THE LATE PERIOD

Abstract
Naming customs and name patterns may vary considerably in different areas of Egyptian territory. This study
analyzes the theophoric anthroponyms in the Fayum of the Late Period, in order to understand their relation
to specific geographical and cultural patterns. Indeed, theophoric personal names, besides having the primary
function of identifying a particular person, also provide valuable information on the religious beliefs and cultural
values of a society.

Riassunto
Questo studio analizza gli antroponimi teoforici nel Fayum di Epoca Tarda, al fine di comprendere la loro
relazione con specifici modelli geografici e culturali. I nomi di persona teoforici, oltre ad avere la funzione primaria
di identificare una determinata persona, forniscono infatti preziose informazioni sulle credenze religiose
e sui valori culturali di una società.
