FRAGMENTO DE CAPITEL PROTOEÓLICO PROCEDENTE DEL CERRO DEL VILLAR CONSERVADO EN EL MUSEO DE MÁLAGA (ESPAÑA)

Abstract

Abstract
We deal with part of a volute belonging to a Proto-Aeolic stone capital with traces of polychromy which was
found in the Phoenician settlement of Cerro del Villar (Málaga, Spain). It is preserved in the Museum of Málaga
and remains unpublished. It is the second stone specimen documented in a Phoenician colony in the far Western
Mediterranean and might be related to a public religious building. Even though the lack of an archaeological
context makes it difficult to establish a precise chronology for this piece, it must be dated between the first half of
the 8th century and the first quarter of the 6th century BC according to the date of the site.

Resumen
Publicamos un fragmento de una voluta perteneciente a un capitel protoeólico de piedra con restos de policromía
procedente del asentamiento fenicio del Cerro del Villar (Málaga, España), conservado en el Museo de
Málaga y que permanece inédito. Se trata del segundo ejemplar pétreo documentado en una colonia fenicia del
extremo occidente mediterráneo y que quizás quepa relacionar con algún edificio religioso de carácter público,
aun cuando su falta de contexto impide poder constatar como querríamos dicha aseveración, al igual que dificulta
establecer una cronología precisa de esta pieza que, no obstante, debe fecharse entre la primera mitad del
siglo VIII y el primer cuarto del VI a. C. a tenor de la aportada por el yacimiento.
