Abstract
As Superintendent of the Antiquities of Sardinia, Gennaro Pesce began two great excavation works at the ancient
phoenician, punic and roman towns of Nora and Tharros. His activity, mindset and operating ways are
considered in relation to the stabilization of the architectural structures brought to light, through his biography
and written sources, against the background of the italian debate about the methods of the archaeological stratigraphic
excavation and restoration.

Riassunto
L’attività di Gennaro Pesce, in qualità di Soprintendente alle Antichità della Sardegna che dà avvio ai due grandi
cantieri di scavo dei siti delle antiche città fenicio-punico-romane di Nora e Tharros, viene esaminata per gli
aspetti che ne caratterizzano il pensiero e la modalità operativa relativamente al consolidamento delle strutture
architettoniche messe in luce, e ciò richiamandone la biografia e le testimonianze scritte sullo sfondo dell’evoluzione
del dibattito italiano sulle modalità dello scavo archeologico stratigrafico e del restauro archeologico.
