Abstract
In preparation for a new archaeological excavation in the tofet and the nuragic settlement on the hill of Su
Murru Mannu, the Superintendence of Cagliari has gathered the documents existing in the archives, even un-
published and unorganized, concerning the previous researches. e earliest excavation by Gennaro Pesce in
the area of the northern walls, carried out during the years 1962-63, allowed the discovery of the tofet and the
nuragic settlement, but the latter was recognized only a decade later. ese discoveries were unexpected but
not casual; on the contrary, they are a further document, enhanced by the urban development of the site, of the
punic, roman and byzantine reoccupation of the ancient abandoned nuragic settlements.

Riassunto
In preparazione di un nuovo intervento di scavo nell’area del tofet e dell’insediamento nuragico sulla collina di
Su Murru Mannu, la Soprintendenza di Cagliari ha raccolto la documentazione presente negli archivi, anche
inedita e non ordinata, concernente le precedenti ricerche. Il primo scavo di Gennaro Pesce nel settore delle
mura settentrionali, condotto negli anni 1962-63, portò alla scoperta del tofet e dell’insediamento nuragico,
quest’ultimo riconosciuto solo un decennio più tardi. Le scoperte furono impreviste ma non casuali, anzi costi-
tuiscono un ulteriore documento, esaltato dallo sviluppo urbano del sito, del processo di rioccupazione punica,
romana e bizantina dei luoghi degli antichi insediamenti nuragici abbandonati.
