NOTE DI ICONOGRAFIA E ICONOLOGIA PER LA RICOSTRUZIONE DI UN RITUALE NEL TOFET DI CARTAGINE: GLI “ATTINGITOI” SULLE STELE VOTIVE*

Abstract
On the stelae of the Carthaginian tofet is depicted a vascular shape that we can define as a dipper juglet. Here
we propose some hypotheses to interpret the motif based on the analysis of the compositional schemes in which
it is placed. The evaluation of the meaning of the associations with other figures and the inscriptions constituted
the basis for a proposal of involvement of the real object within the complex rituality of the sacred context of
the tofet.

Riassunto
Fra i soggetti che fanno parte del ricco repertorio iconografico delle stele del tofet di Cartagine si annovera una
particolare forma vascolare definibile come attingitoio. Si propongono in questa sede alcune ipotesi di decifrazione
del motivo sulla base in maniera preminente dell’analisi degli schemi compositivi in cui questo viene
collocato. La valutazione del significato delle associazioni con altre figure e il rapporto con le iscrizioni hanno
costituito la base per una proposta di coinvolgimento dell’oggetto reale all’interno della complessa ritualità
propria del contesto sacro del tofet.
