Un’erma e un’iscrizione: l’Ercole bambino da Carteromaco a Orsini e oltre
Abstract
A hitherto neglected marginal note by Scipione Forteguerri gives a clue to the early history and wherebaouts of a hip-herm of the young Heracles (with a Greek metrical inscription, preserved to the present day in the Vatican), seen and described in Rome in the mid-Cinquecento by several erudites and artists, most notably Martin Smet, Steven Pigge, and Pirro Ligorio.
