Su un’iscrizione da Viale Africa commemorante una ruina
Abstract
The article concerns the re-examination of an inscription discovered in 1941 near Viale Africa, (now Viale Aventino) and currently
housed in Parco Archeologico del Celio. The reassessment of the text has provided an opportunity to put forward hypotheses regarding
its dating and original context, thereby contributing to the contextualisation of the epigraph. The comparative analysis of literary, epigraphic,
archaeological, and numismatic sources seems to indicate the provenance of the inscription from the Circus Maximus, positing
it as the result of the structure’s restoration carried out by Caracalla.
