Le indagini nella c.d. piazzola di Alcimo della necropoli di Santa Rosa in Vaticano. Dati antropologici e ricerca archeologica

Abstract

In the Vatican Necropolis along the via Triumphalis the most notable novelties derive from the comparison of anthropological and
archaeological analyses, a comparison that has brought a considerable amount of information. First of all, these analyses have led to the
disconnection of the number of urns from the number of deceased persons, attesting to a voluntary joining of bones for a post-mortem
family reunion. In addition, there is evidence to suggest the physical presence of the Manes Gods within some tombs, with a ritual
involving the transfer of ancestors from individual tombs to family tombs. In these tombs, the forefathers seem to be considered as
genuine Manes, destined to protect and consecrate the new tomb.
