Il Mitreo di piazza Dante a Roma e il suo contesto magico-salvifico
Abstract
The excavations carried out after the unification of Italy to adapt the city to the needs of the capital brought to light in Piazza Dante
in the Esquiline Quarter an important sacred context pertaining to a mithraeum in which the cult of other salutary divinities must
have converged. In addition to some mithraic Reliefs, comes from this context a silver-inscribed foil, the ‘Capitoline Philactery’, written
in Greek-Hebraic language. The foil could protect from malaria. In the same place were found the head of a Statue of Hygeia too.
