Zur Arbeitsweise kaiserzeitlicher Kopisten

Abstract

This paper intends to be a small step towards a better understanding of the reception of Greek opera nobilia in the Roman Imperial
period. Its focus are variations of the hairstyle of female head types, mainly the addition of a top-knot. By analysing such a top-knot as
an addition by the copyist, it can be shown that several hitherto unclassified heads are actually variants of Greek opera nobilia, for
example the Dresden Artemis, the Aphrodite from Knidos, and the Aphrodite from Arles. Related variations of hairstyles are discussed
as well.
