Abstract

Together with other icons of Romanitas, Trajan’s Column represented, and continues to represent, a pivotal symbol of Romanian identity, in some ways
the most important. The laying of a bronze wreath at Trajan’s Column by the Romanian Delegation at the 12th International Congress of Orientalists,
on 12 October 1899, highlights in an exemplary manner the monument’s iconic value for modern Romania.
