Abstract


In the Epistle 30, after explaining the mystical meaning of the Hebrew
letters inserted in the Psalm 118, Jerome contrasts sweet wisdom
and knowledge of God with goods and material pleasures. The
reference to georg. 2,506, not identified by editors and translators, enriches the text of Jerome with significant Virgilian echoes.
