LUNGO LE COSTE DEL SALENTO (OPINABILI MUTAMENTI DEL L.D.M.)

Piero Alfredo Gianfrotta

Abstract

These notes concern results of surveis and remarks on the nature of ancient coastal places in Apulia and on recent valuations of
relative sea-level changes from the Roman age to now. One concerns the rare submerged ruins of Roman harbour of Egnatia: were
sistematically pulled down with explosions of mines in the last century. Large part of ruins was carried away. Another examines
submerged remains in the Bay of San Cataldo - Cesine and identifies their role of fish-thanks. Their use like markers of sea-levels
changes has not been right. (Off limits, an addendum concerns a little vivarium at Pietralacroce, Ancona.) Last brief notes regard
coastal settlements at Torre Ovo, Porto Cesareo and Torre Chianca.

Keywords: harbour, coastal Geoarchaeology, sea-level changes
