PAESAGGI CENTURIATI E PAESAGGI COLTIVATI LUNGO LE STRADE DELL’AGER AECANUS
Abstract
Between Foggia and Troia (the ancient Aecae), in the area crossed by the Celone and Cervaro torrents, there was a broad
limitatio being studied by the Laboratory of Ancient Topography and Photogrammetry (LabTAF) of the University of Salento.
The research is conducted using traditional topographical sources combined with new technologies, in particular proximal and
remote sensing systems, which allow for an innovative methodological approach, aimed at acquiring previously unknown data in
an attempt to recompose the complex and extensive agrarian land division. New data that allow us to expand our knowledge about
land organization in Roman times and to observe, thanks to an impressive number of archaeological traces – besides the road grid
that defines the agrarian division on the ground – reliable evidence of the cultivations that were practised within the individual
centuriae.
