IL DIFFICILE ORDINE DELL’AGER CAMPANUS

Stefania Quilici Gigli

Abstract

The centuratio of the ager Campanus stands out as one of the most well-known and frequently cited examples. The article reconstructs
the measures taken following the deditio of Capua in 211 BC: renting out the confiscated lands with payment in grain
resulted in differences in the layout and settlement dynamics compared to the more substantial occupation of the 4th-3rd century
BC. With Caesar’s allocations, there was a resurgence in settlement and an improvement in road infrastructure. The lands of the
Sanctuary of Diana, situated on the slopes and Mount Tifata, expanded due to Sulla’s donation, forming a unique case.
