PROSPETTIVE DI PAESAGGI SUBURBANI: I CASI DI TARENTUM, BRUNDISIUM E LUPIAE, TRA PERCORSI, INSEDIAMENTI E INFRASTRUTTURE
Abstract
This contribution aims to offer an overall critical reading of the suburban landscape of Tarentum, Brundisium and Lupiae. Our
focus is specifically oriented to the organization and the transformation that featured them, starting from an analysis of the different
perception of the city boundary in the immediate extramural zone. We then analize the topographical aspects linked to the
necropolis areas and the location of the production infrastructures. On the basis of old and new data, we propose to reinterpret the
layout of the main road routes, that constitute a key element of these suburban landscapes. The road network has visibly influenced
the organization and development of settlements and infrastructure; in some cases, however, it has itself been conditioned by the
natural landscape, which constitutes at the same time an obstacle and a resource for they own territory.
