ARRIVANDO IN CITTÀ: RAPPORTI TRA STRADE, PORTE E IMPIANTI URBANI NELLE CITTÀ DELL’APULIA ANTICA

Maria Luisa Marchi

Abstract

This paper is focused on the analysis of the ancient forma urbis. The interesting point regards the settlements of Apulia and the
relationship between the planning of the road and the extra-urban road system. Also this work analyses how settlements and cities
have been conditioned.
In studies on ancient cities and in particular on the Roman city, the relationships between long-distance roads and urban roads
undoubtedly constitute a crucial point in urban planning, which often deviates from the actual urban planning.
The area examined is the dauna area, selecting some cities strongly linked to major road connections and the subject of recent
investigations. The study has also included many important settlements and cities from indigenous settlements to the Roman colonies
Teanum Apulum, Luceria, Venusia and Herdonia.

Keywords: Daunia, Urban Planning, Road, City-Wall.
