ENTRANDO NELLE CITTÀ DELL’ETRURIA/TUSCIA. ASSETTI TOPOGRAFICI E PERCEZIONI ANTICHE: POPULONIUM, VOLATERRAE, PISAE, LUNA

Abstract

The study area is North Western Etruria. Populonia, Volterra, Pisa and Luni have been selected as cities of particular interest
to compare the output of recent integrated researches with the descriptions of urban and/or territorial aspects provided by ancient
authors. Strabo and Claudius Rutilius Namatianus are of particular interest. They relied on their personal experience and on
previous writers, chose to describe specific aspects characterizing the settlements and territories and provide descriptions based on
their perceptions and culture.
