ENTRANDO IN UNA CITTÀ IN COSTRUZIONE

Lorenzo Quilici

Abstract

The author imagines of visiting a city in ancient times, a colony with nomen Latinum under full construction: Civita di Artena.
The urban setting, of unknown name, was formed during the second half of the 4th century BC.
The author notices that during this construction activity the urban setting was far from being completed. She suggests that it
was never completed and intentionally abandoned, because there was no longer a reason to continue: the threat of the Volsci and
Equi populations had ended, the Lazio area was expanding more towards the Campania area and the Oscans and Samnites.

Keywords: Artena, Republican colonization, Fora, Fortifications, Republican urban planning.
