Die lokale Produktion geometrisch bemalter Keramik aus Erice (Sizilien). Eigenarten in Form und Dekor

Chiara Blasetti Fantauzzi

Abstract

The defensive walls of the Elymian site of Erice in Western Sicily have been subject to
thorough archaeological research between 2010 and 2014. The matt-painted pottery
from the stratigraphical contexts has been studied in detail. Their morphological and
typological characteristics were clarified. With regard to the morphological aspects
of the pottery, the infuence of imported materials on local production seems to have
been only marginal in Erice. Only for the jugs external influence on the form can be
postulated, while all other forms, in particular bowls and cups, remain rooted deeply
in the local tradition.
