Il sistema difensivo di Lilibeo e Segesta nella diacronia

Rossella Giglio

Abstract

On the basis of the investigations described in this article, the hypothesis of the presence of coastal fortifications has been concretely reinforced, confirming with certainty that Lilibeo was defended by city-walls on all four sides. It is therefore necessary to definitively exclude the hypothesis of a city-walls only on the mainland. In Segesta the archaeological investigations focused on the structure found near the Hellenistic necropolis, identifying it as part of the city’s outermost fortifications, dating back to the late Archaic period (late 6th - early 5th century B.C.).
Keywords: Lilybaeum, Segesta, Punic Sicily, Punic city-walls
