Production and circulation of fine Black-Gloss tableware: new data from Sardinia
Abstract
The Roman Sardinia, that is linked to complex social and cultural dynamics of Punic tradition, is a privileged field to study the material culture. In fact, the early annexation to the Empire and the geographical isolation have determined a complicated pottery-facies, because of the western Punic tradition and the opening to new Roman maritime traffics, started at the middle of the 2nd cent. B.C. The aim of this paper is to illustrate new recent researches in southern Sardinia, about the Late Republican Black-Gloss tableware, that could be analyzed from multiple analysis perspectives: on one hand, it could be useful to deepen the questions between the import materials and the traffics of the ancient world, and on the other it should open to new studies about the local production.
